peeling

"Peeling" is a photographic series dedicated to Tiong Bahru, one of Singapore’s oldest housing estates. As the neighbourhood undergoes rapid redevelopment, its familiar colours, textures, and architectural details are gradually fading, giving way to newer surfaces and structures.
Through the act of peeling, the series explores the tension between preservation and erasure, revealing the layers of history embedded within the neighbourhood’s walls, facades, and everyday surroundings. Flaking paint, weathered surfaces, and remnants of past interventions become quiet witnesses to the passage of time, holding traces of lives and histories that risk being lost.
By drawing attention to these seemingly insignificant details, "Peeling" reflects on the fragility of place and the impermanence of the built environment. It captures Tiong Bahru at a moment of transition, where the old is slowly stripped away to make room for the new, leaving behind fragments of a disappearing past. In these layers of decay and renewal, the series invites us to consider what remains, what is lost, and how we remember a place as it changes.
Limited edition art prints are avaliable for this series. Contact us for enquiries.
